CBB Player Updates from May 31
The player update post contains the biggest recent player news and does not currently require a CFU subscription.
The Core Four – four key updates
- With May 31 being the deadline to withdraw from the NBA Draft and return to school (although a few players did not publicly declare their intentions), some of the biggest names to withdraw who are expected to return to their schools were Zach Edey (Purdue), Trey Alexander (Creighton), Terrence Shannon & Coleman Hawkins (Illinois), Branden Carlson (Utah), DaRon Holmes (Dayton), Judah Mintz (Syracuse), Tristan da Silva (Colorado), Tristen Newton (UConn), Reece Beekman (Virginia), AJ Hoggard & Jaden Akins (Michigan State), and Alijah Martin & Johnell Davis (FAU)
- On the flipside, some of the biggest names to remain in the Draft included Oscar Tshiebwe (Kentucky), Kobe Brown (Missouri), Jaylen Clark (UCLA), Adama Sanogo & Andre Jackson (UConn), Chris Livingston (Kentucky), Brice Sensabaugh (Ohio State), Jordan Walsh (Arkansas), Adam Flagler (Baylor) & Chase Audige (Northwestern)
- Withdrawing from the NBA Draft but remaining in the transfer portal were Arthur Kaluma (Creighton), Mike Sharavjamts (Dayton), Olivier Nkamhoua (Tennessee), Isaiah Miranda (NC State) and Zyon Pullin (UC Riverside), while Jalen Bridges (Baylor) is considering returning to Baylor as well as the Australian NBL and Antonio Reeves (Kentucky) is considering returning to Kentucky but may explore other options.
- Richmond forward Tyler Burton announced he will transfer to Villanova. Burton was a Spider four seasons, most recently scoring 19.0 ppg with 7.4 rpg in 2022-23. He adds to Nova’s impressive incoming transfer group which also consists of TJ Bamba, Hakim Hart and Lance Ware. Also announcing a transfer was Kansas big man Ernest Udeh who heads to TCU.
- Bonus Reminder – players who entered the NBA Draft process and then announced transfers to new schools all withdrew from the Draft as expected, as has been the case in previous years almost without fail, thus I do not consider those withdrawals “breaking news” and they are not listed, whereas to transfer then actually remain in the Draft would be newsworthy
