CBB Injuries & Updates from Thur. December 31

On Thursday Jonah Antonio (Wake Forest) did not play due to a hamstring injury and Dallas Walton (Colorado) was out with a lower leg injury. Mikael Jantunen (Utah) returned to action with a mask after nose surgery, Matt Bradley (Cal) was back after an ankle injury, and Keith McGee returned for New Mexico after an ankle injury. Ethan Anderson (USC) was inactive again.

UCLA’s Chris Smith was in and out of the game Thursday with what was diagnosed in postgame as a knee bruise, and Maryland’s Darryl Morsell was ruled out mid-game after taking a shot to the head in the first half.

In other injury updates, Tre Jackson (Iowa State) is expected to make his season debut Saturday after recovering from a knee injury, and Ron Harper & Cliff Omoruyi (Rutgers) were not expected to practice on Thursday as they deal with injuries.

CBB Injuries & Updates from Wed. December 30

On Wednesday notable players unexpectedly not playing were Ryan Daly (St Joe’s), Chase Johnson (Dayton), RJ Nembhard (TCU), Jason Preston (Ohio, lower body) and Andre Gustavson (Richmond).

Suffering injuries on Wednesday were Trey Wertz (Notre Dame, ankle), Justin Smith (Arkansas, ankle), Jaren Holmes (St Bonaventure, back spasms), and Manny Bates (NC State, knee).

Returning to action after missing time, all for covid-related reasons, were DJ Funderburk (NC State), Francisco Farabello (TCU), Greg Foster & Cameron Brown (Saint Joe’s), Dwon Odom (Xavier) & Tyler Polley (UConn).

In injury updates, Isaiah Cottrell (West Virginia) is out for the season with a torn Achilles, Marcus Bagley (Arizona State) is healthy after his calf injury but teammate Taeshon Cherry will be out for a week. Connor Crabtree (Richmond) is out 10-12 weeks with a fracture in his foot and Joey Brunk (Indiana) had back surgery and will continue to be out indefinitely. Cincinnati saw Mamoudou Diarra return from opting out but Rapolas Ivanauskas has now decided to opt out.

CBB Injuries & Updates from Tues. December 29

Unexpectedly not playing on Tuesday were Ron Harper (Rutgers) due to an ankle injury, Alexis Yetna (South Florida), Jay Jay Chandler (Texas A&M), Antonio Gordon (Kansas State), and Shareef O’Neal (LSU). West Virginia’s Isaiah Cottrell suffered a lower leg injury.

Notables returning to action after missing time were Adam Flagler (Baylor), Savion Flagg (Texas A&M), Elijah Joiner (Tulsa), John Petty (Alabama), and Javonte Smart (LSU). Kevin McCullar (Texas Tech) made his season debut. Still sitting out included Jalen Suggs (Gonzaga), Chris Lykes & Kameron McGusty (Miami), and Ethan Anderson (USC).

In injury updates, Jermaine Harris (Rhode Island) is expected to be available Wednesday, but Musa Jallow (Ohio State) will be out. For UConn Tyler Polley is ready to go, and Akok Akok is getting close.

CBB Injuries & Updates from Mon. December 28

On Monday night Gonzaga’s Jalen Suggs did not play due to a right leg injury tweaked in the second half of the Virginia game, Andrew Nembhard got the start. Suggs will be a gametime decision on Tuesday. Michigan State moved Aaron Henry to the bench but he actually led the team in scoring and minutes played – 11 points/28 minutes. In the final minutes of the game Colorado’s McKinley Wright received attention from a trainer and left the game after going down with an apparent right leg/ankle issue. It did not look serious as he was sitting by himself soon after testing it out but is worth monitoring.

In injury updates, John Petty & James Rojas should play for Alabama on Tuesday, and Alex Lomax & Malcolm Dandridge should also be back for Memphis. Jacob Young (Rutgers) is dealing with a hip bruise but the team is hopeful he can go. Aaron Thompson (Butler) is still questionable for Wednesday. San Jose State’s Seneca Knight chose to opt out of the remainder of the season due to covid concerns.

On Sunday Romeo Weems & Darious Hall made their season debuts for DePaul after missing the season opener due to covid-protocols. Vanderbilt Myles Stute‘s returned to action but Clevon Brown was unavailable due to a practice injury.

On Saturday Caleb Mills (Houston) was back in action after dealing with ankle injuries but Javonte Smart did not play for LSU due to covid protocols. Robbie Beran (Northwestern) played off the bench after an ankle injury last game, and Terrence Clarke (Kentucky) moved to playing off the bench as he deals with an ankle injury.

Jordan Miller (George Mason) came off the bench after serving a two-game suspension, and for LSU Shareef O’Neal was back in action, but Byran Penn-Johnson is away from the team for personal reasons right now.

CBB Injuries & Updates from Thur-Fri. December 24-25

On Friday Joey Hauser started for Michigan State after dealing with a knee injury suffered in his last game. Isaiah Ihnen was back in the starting lineup for Minnesota, and Darryl Morsell for the first time this season came off the bench for Maryland.

In some injury updates, Cameron Tyson (Houston) will not travel for the game Saturday.

Injuries and Updates from Dec 24-25:

  • Ben Carlson, Wisconsin – DNP again
  • Hunter Dickinson, Michigan – got his second start of the season since Austin Davis went out with a foot injury, went for 13 pts/14 rebs/32 mins after putting up 20 pts/27 mins in his first start
  • Joey Hauser, Michigan State – started Fri. after dealing with knee injury during last game – 27 points in 29 minutes
  • Isaiah Ihnen, Minnesota – returned to the starting lineup (2 pts/18 mins) with Brandon Johnson going to the bench (26 pts/27 mins, 8/9 from 3)

CBB Injuries & Updates from Wed. December 23

On Wednesday suffering in-game injuries were Robbie Beran (Northwestern) who left in the first half with an apparent ankle injury, Jacob Young (Rutgers) who took a hard fall in the second half and did not return, and Josiah-Jordan James (Tennessee) who left in the second half with a knee injury but was said to be fine in postgame.

Returning to action after missing time was Marcus Shaver (Boise State), but Aaron Thompson (Butler) and Mawot Mag (Rutgers) sat out again. DePaul had a number of players inactive in their season-opener, most notably Jaylen Butz (injury) & Romeo Weems (covid-related). Elijah Joiner (Tulsa), a normal starter, did not play due to an Achilles injury.

In some injury updates, Michigan State’s Joey Hauser is likely to play Friday (knee), Tyler Polley (UConn) should return to full practice this week, and Mikael Jantunen (Utah) had surgery for a broken nose and is hopeful to be back by Dec 31. Arkansas’ Jalen Tate aggravated an ankle injury but is expected to be able to practice after Christmas, and Andre Jackson (UConn) is out indefinitely with a broken bone in his wrist.

Maceo Jack (George Washington) entered the transfer portal, he’s only averaging 6.9 pts this season after being in double-digits the past two years.

CBB Injuries & Updates from Tues. December 22

On Tuesday some players returning to action after missing time were Carlik Jones (Louisville), Marcus Sasser (Houston), JJ Miles (East Carolina), KeShawn Curry (VCU) & Cam Hayes (NC State).

Unexpected scratches were John Petty & James Rojas for Alabama (non-injury, sounded disciplinary), and Charles Bassey (Western Kentucky) with back spasms. Remaining sidelined were Caleb Mills (Houston), Matt Bradley (Cal), and Francisco Farabello (TCU).

In some injury updates, Wake Forest’s Tariq Ingraham is out for the season for covid-related reasons, and teammate Ian DuBose is out indefinitely for “medical reasons”. Pitt lost Justin Champagnie (17.8 ppg) for 6-8 weeks with a knee injury, while Au’Diese Toney did not play Tuesday with an ankle injury.

Cliff Omoruyi (Rutgers) is out indefinitely with a knee sprain. In great news Keyontae Johnson (Florida) was released from the hospital but is expected to miss the rest of the season.

After starting the first three games of the season, Auburn’s Tyrell Jones did not play Tuesday, and word came out that he had entered the transfer portal.

CBB Injuries & Updates from Mon. December 21

On Monday Savion Flagg (Texas A&M) did not play due to being in concussion protocol and Jordan Miller (George Mason, 20 ppg) was out due to a 2-game suspension. Marcus Shaver (Boise State) was not ready to return with his foot injury, Adam Flagler (Baylor) was unavailable again and Alex Lomax & Malcolm Dandridge were held out for Memphis.

Isaac Bonton (Washington State) returned after a one-game absence, but Daejon Davis (Stanford) did not play after leaving the game on Sunday with a lower leg injury.

In some status updates, Cam’Ron Fletcher (Kentucky) has been suspended from the team for his recent actions during Kentucky’s last loss, Carlik Jones (Louisville), Marcus Sasser & Caleb Mills (Houston) and KeShawn Curry (VCU) are expected to be back in action on Tuesday. Kerr Kriisa (Arizona) will be eligible to play beginning Feb 6th.
