CBB Player Updates – Week of September 14-20

(Post will be continually updated throughout the week)

Most of the news this week again centered around waivers for eligibility being granted, with Jamarius Burton (Texas Tech) and Tyrese Martin (UConn) being some of the highlights.

On Friday came the news that Iowa State’s Blake Hinson will miss the season due to an ongoing medical condition.

List of College Basketball Transfers, Updates & Injuries this week:

  • Andre Adams, Boston College – reports of a season-ending injury for the grad transfer from Southern Utah
  • Jamal Bieniemy, UTEP – eligible after transfer from Oklahoma
  • James Bishop, George Washington – eligible after transfer from LSU
  • Jamarius Burton, Texas Tech – eligible after transfer from Wichita State
  • Je’Lani Clark, Nevada – not enrolled in school and has been removed from the roster
  • Noah Fernandes, UMass – eligible after transfer from Wichita State
  • Juwan Gary, Alabama – not yet returned to action (knee)
  • Raymond Hawkins, Long Beach State – eligible after transfer from Alabama
  • Blake Hinson, Iowa State – will miss the season with an ongoing medical condition (transfer from Ole Miss)
  • Tyrese Martin, UConn – eligible after transfer from Rhode Island
  • Mike Peake, Austin Peay – eligible after transfer from Georgia
  • James Rojas, Alabama – no longer limited (knee)

CBB Player Updates – Week of September 7-13

(Post will be continually updated throughout the week)

The early news this week was South Alabama’s Michael Flowers going public with his frustration that Western Michigan (where he transferred from & averaged 16.9 points last season) wasn’t cooperating and he had been denied an eligibility waiver.

Some transfer eligibility waivers were granted on Thursday, which also saw the news of Western Kentucky’s Charles Bassey returning from injury to full-contact drills with the team.

Also the bizarre news this week that Buffalo’s Malik Zachery was charged with assault in relation to the stabbing of Canisius’ Scott Hitchon, which somehow resulted from a pickup basketball game.

  • Michael Flowers, South Alabama – says eligibility waiver has been denied after transfer from Western Michigan
  • Jervay Green, Pacific – eligible after transfer from Nebraska
  • Scott Hitchon, Canisius – identified as player stabbed by Buffalo’s Malik Zachery, has been released from hospital
  • Austin Hutcherson, Illinois – resumes workouts after back issues this summer
  • Zach Kent, Delaware State – eligible after transfer from Tennessee
  • Makur Maker, Howard – top recruit is reported to be eligible to play this season

CBB Player Updates – Week of Aug 31-Sept 6

The news this week again centered around transfers being granted immediate eligibility to play this season, with Liam Robbins at Minnesota and Tyler Harris being eligible at Iowa State some of the biggest news from early in the week.

Brandon Williams also announced that he would be leaving Arizona to pursue professional opportunities.

The news this week again mostly centers around transfers being granted immediate eligibility to play this season, with Memphis’ Landers Nolley perhaps the biggest name to get a waiver.

CFB Injuries & Updates – Sat-Sun August 22-23

The biggest news from the weekend was transfer related. On Saturday Washington State WR Davontavean “Tay” Martin announced he would transfer to Oklahoma State. Over the past 3 seasons Martin has totaled 143 receptions for 1615 yards and 18 TDs. Martin will likely apply for a waiver to be immediately eligible in attempts to join a WR corps led by Tylan Wallace.

Then on Sunday Colorado State TE Trey McBride announced he would remove his name from the transfer portal and remain with the team.

College Football Injuries and Updates List for August 22-23:

QBs:

  • Max Duggan, TCU – had a procedure for pre-existing heart condition and has begun recovery, no timeline was mentioned
  • TJ Goodwin, UTEP – opts out of season
  • Gavin Hardison, UTEP – named starter
  • Gunnar Watson, Troy – named starting QB

RBs:

  • Jacob Kibodi – back in the transfer portal, was at Texas A&M last season and had transferred to Incarnate Word
  • DJ Williams, Auburn – was seen wearing a non-contact jersey in practice last week, then held out of Saturday’s scrimmage, expected back next week

WRs & TEs:

  • TE Baylor Cupp, Texas A&M – healthy after season-long injury last year
  • Tay Martin – transfers from Washington State to Oklahoma State
  • TE Trey McBride, Colorado State – withdraws from transfer portal
  • Ricky Walker, grad transfer from Cal to Oregon State

CFB Injuries & Updates – August 15-16 Weekend

The weekend had some big news break, foremost with the opt outs of RB Kennedy Brooks (Oklahoma) & WR Warren Jackson (Colorado State). The Brooks news in combination with Trey Sermon’s transfer to Ohio State and Rhamondre Stevenson still serving a multi-game suspension from last season means that Oklahoma will be breaking in some new RBs this year. TE Grant Calcaterra (Oklahoma) also announced he was returning to football but would transfer.

QBs:

  • JT Daniels, Georgia – not yet medically cleared, contradicting report from earlier in the week
  • Jamie Newman, Georgia – back from foot sprain

RBs:

  • Kennedy Brooks, Oklahoma – opts out of season
  • Travis Etienne, Clemson – didn’t participate in scrimmage due to being “banged up” earlier in the week

WRs & TEs:

  • Will Brown, Clemson – injured shoulder (?) in scrimmage, not thought to be serious
  • TE Grant Calcaterra – “retired” from Oklahoma last season, but has decided to return to football and plans to enter the transfer portal
  • Cason Grant, Oklahoma – lower-body injury, will miss part of season (walk-on)
  • Warren Jackson, Colorado State – opts out to prepare for NFL draft
  • Troy Omeire, Texas – torn ACL, out for season
  • Warren Thompson, Florida State – apologizes after social media post criticizing team for handling of COVID
  • Al’Vonte Woodard, Texas – checked for head injury after practice

CFB Injuries & Updates – August 10-14

The news this week has been dominated by teams and conferences trying to decide whether they were playing this fall or postponing to the spring, which postponed or limited practices for many teams.

Not many high-profile updates this week, perhaps the biggest being Marshall QB Isaiah Green withdrawing from the transfer portal, Georgia QB JT Daniels being cleared (later update: he is actually not yet medically cleared) while teammate QB Jamie Newman may be rehabbing a foot issue; at FSU WR DJ Matthews tweeting then deleting that he had a positive COVID test, which led to a brief player social media controversy at Florida State.
