CBB Injuries & Updates from Wed. December 23

On Wednesday suffering in-game injuries were Robbie Beran (Northwestern) who left in the first half with an apparent ankle injury, Jacob Young (Rutgers) who took a hard fall in the second half and did not return, and Josiah-Jordan James (Tennessee) who left in the second half with a knee injury but was said to be fine in postgame.

Returning to action after missing time was Marcus Shaver (Boise State), but Aaron Thompson (Butler) and Mawot Mag (Rutgers) sat out again. DePaul had a number of players inactive in their season-opener, most notably Jaylen Butz (injury) & Romeo Weems (covid-related). Elijah Joiner (Tulsa), a normal starter, did not play due to an Achilles injury.

In some injury updates, Michigan State’s Joey Hauser is likely to play Friday (knee), Tyler Polley (UConn) should return to full practice this week, and Mikael Jantunen (Utah) had surgery for a broken nose and is hopeful to be back by Dec 31. Arkansas’ Jalen Tate aggravated an ankle injury but is expected to be able to practice after Christmas, and Andre Jackson (UConn) is out indefinitely with a broken bone in his wrist.

Maceo Jack (George Washington) entered the transfer portal, he’s only averaging 6.9 pts this season after being in double-digits the past two years.

CBB Injuries & Updates from Tues. December 22

On Tuesday some players returning to action after missing time were Carlik Jones (Louisville), Marcus Sasser (Houston), JJ Miles (East Carolina), KeShawn Curry (VCU) & Cam Hayes (NC State).

Unexpected scratches were John Petty & James Rojas for Alabama (non-injury, sounded disciplinary), and Charles Bassey (Western Kentucky) with back spasms. Remaining sidelined were Caleb Mills (Houston), Matt Bradley (Cal), and Francisco Farabello (TCU).

In some injury updates, Wake Forest’s Tariq Ingraham is out for the season for covid-related reasons, and teammate Ian DuBose is out indefinitely for “medical reasons”. Pitt lost Justin Champagnie (17.8 ppg) for 6-8 weeks with a knee injury, while Au’Diese Toney did not play Tuesday with an ankle injury.

Cliff Omoruyi (Rutgers) is out indefinitely with a knee sprain. In great news Keyontae Johnson (Florida) was released from the hospital but is expected to miss the rest of the season.

After starting the first three games of the season, Auburn’s Tyrell Jones did not play Tuesday, and word came out that he had entered the transfer portal.

CBB Injuries & Updates from Mon. December 21

On Monday Savion Flagg (Texas A&M) did not play due to being in concussion protocol and Jordan Miller (George Mason, 20 ppg) was out due to a 2-game suspension. Marcus Shaver (Boise State) was not ready to return with his foot injury, Adam Flagler (Baylor) was unavailable again and Alex Lomax & Malcolm Dandridge were held out for Memphis.

Isaac Bonton (Washington State) returned after a one-game absence, but Daejon Davis (Stanford) did not play after leaving the game on Sunday with a lower leg injury.

In some status updates, Cam’Ron Fletcher (Kentucky) has been suspended from the team for his recent actions during Kentucky’s last loss, Carlik Jones (Louisville), Marcus Sasser & Caleb Mills (Houston) and KeShawn Curry (VCU) are expected to be back in action on Tuesday. Kerr Kriisa (Arizona) will be eligible to play beginning Feb 6th.

CBB Injuries & Updates from Sun. December 20

On Sunday Dwon Odom (Xavier) and Tyler Polley (UConn) did not play due to covid protocols. Houston was missing Caleb Mills, Marcus Sasser & Cameron Tyson, and Mawot Mag (Rutgers) did not play due to a sprained ankle in practice.

In some injury updates, Cliff Omoruyi (Rutgers) left the game Sunday with a right knee injury and did not return to action. Michigan State’s Joey Hauser left the game and went to the locker room with a knee injury but did return to action. Symir Torrence (Marquette) returned to action after missing 3 games with a toe injury. Jarvis Omersa (Minnesota) opted out of the rest of the season.

Making season debuts were Xavier’s Ben Stanley (transfer) and Georgia Tech’s Tristan Maxwell (foot injury).

CBB Injuries & Updates from Sat. December 19

On Saturday notably returning to action after missing time were EJ Liddell (Ohio State), Toumani Camara (Georgia), Bryce Golden (Butler) and Samuell Williamson (Louisville). Earl Timberlake (Miami), Darius Perry (UCF) and Seth Towns (Ohio State) made season debuts after being sidelined with injuries.

Suffering injuries were Stanford’s Daejon Davis who left in the second half with a lower body injury and Villanova’s Brandon Slater who was held out of the second half with back spasms. RJ Davis (UNC) and Kyle Young (Ohio State) both left their games with injury issues but returned to action. Rodney Miller (Miami) tried to play after missing games but was pulled with knee pain after a brief stint on the court.

Unexpectedly not playing on Saturday were Carlik Jones (Louisville) as he returns from covid protocols, Adam Flagler (Baylor), Matt Bradley & Grant Anticevich (Cal), Jared Kimbrough (La Salle) and JJ Miles (East Carolina).

CBB Injuries & Updates – Fri. December 18

On Friday Jermaine Harris (Rhode Island) left the game late in the 2nd half with a left knee injury. Unexpectedly not suiting up were Isaac Bonton (Washington State) with a thigh injury and Mikael Jantunen (Utah) with a broken nose. Aljaz Kunc (Washington State) returned to action from a foot injury and Allen Betrand (Rhode Island) made his season debut after transferring.

In some injury updates, Aaron Thompson (Butler) is questionable for Saturday with a knee sprain but teammate Bryce Golden should be available. Toumani Camara (Georgia) is hopeful to play Saturday, but Bo Hodges (Butler) will not play this season sue to being academically ineligible.

Daejon Davis (Stanford) is expected to be active on Saturday, but Jalen Harris (Georgetown) has taken a leave of absence from the team for family reasons and will not be available Sunday. Sterling Manley (UNC) has returned to limited practice according to a teammate after missing last season (knee).

CBB Injuries & Updates – Thur. December 17

On Thursday Bryce Aiken (Seton Hall) returned to action for the first time since the season-opener, NC State was missing numerous players (covid-related), most notably DJ Funderburk and Cam Hayes, and St. Joe’s was missing Greg Foster & Cameron Brown.

Some transfers making their season debuts after getting cleared included Alex O’Connell (Creighton), Trevor Lakes (Nebraska), and Aaron Estrada (Oregon).

In some injury updates, Makhi Mitchell (Rhode Island) was confirmed to be out for the season with a recent knee injury and Tre Jackson (Iowa State) is not expected back before January.

CBB Injuries & Updates – Wed. December 16

On Wednesday came news that all D1 to D1 transfers were granted immediate waivers. I’m not going to list every time a player with a waiver makes his debut but will highlight the notable transfers as they debut with their new teams. On Wednesday DeAndre Williams (Memphis), Elijah Olaniyi (Miami), Nike Sibande (Pitt), Elijah Harkless (Oklahoma), Trey Wertz (Notre Dame) and Yor Anei (SMU) debuted. Bo Hodges (Butler) was unavailable.

In Wednesday games returning to action were Jordan Wright (Vanderbilt) and Jaden Ivey (Purdue). Notable names not suiting up were Chris Lykes (Miami), DJ Harvey (Vanderbilt), Bryce Golden (Butler), Marcus Bagley (Arizona State), Malcolm Dandridge (Memphis) and Francisco Farabello (TCU).

Suffering possible injuries were Butler’s Aaron Thompson who left the game in the 2nd half with an apparent knee injury, and East Carolina’s Jayden Gardner who left the game after taking a hard fall under the bucket late in the 2nd half, in postgame Gardner was described as “a little bruised but we think he’ll be fine”.

In injury updates, Jalen Johnson (Duke) will be out at least 2-3 weeks with his foot injury, and Tai Strickland (Temple) is a gametime decision on Saturday. Tyson Jolly (SMU) did not play but was back on the bench after being away for personal reasons.

CBB Injuries & Updates – Tues. December 15

On Tuesday Daejon Davis (Stanford) did not play for what sounded like disciplinary measures and Brandon Johnson (Minnesota) got back on the court after an ankle injury. Cartier Diarra (Virginia Tech) did not play due to opting out for covid concerns, but it sounds like the door is open to him returning. Hayden Hefner (Texas A&M, ankle) and RayQuan Evans & Tanor Ngom (Florida State, undisclosed) were unavailable Tuesday.

In injury updates, Miami sounds like they will be missing Chris Lykes, Kameron McGusty & Rodney Miller tomorrow, and Duke announced that Jalen Johnson is out indefinitely with a foot injury. In great news, Florida’s Keyontae Johnson is now breathing on his own and able to communicate with his family.

CBB Injuries & Updates – Mon. December 14

On Monday Trendon Watford (ankle, wearing a boot in pregame) and Shareef O’Neal (undisclosed) did not play for LSU. Geo Baker (Rutgers) played off the bench after missing several games and Eli Parquet (Colorado) returned to action as a starter after missing time for covid-related reasons.

In some injury updates, Brandon Johnson (Minnesota) is still day to day, and Ohio State EJ Liddell‘s status was also updated to day-to-day after being described as out with a non-covid illness last week. Florida’s Keyontae Johnson was transferred to a Gainesville hospital and was initially described as being in a medically induced coma, and later in the day as still critical but stable and following simple commands.

Makhi Mitchell (Rhode Island) reportedly will have knee surgery and miss the rest of the season. Seth Towns (Ohio State) is still week-to-week, and Will Richardson (Oregon) is on track for a return around the second week of January.
